Money and Feng Shui: How Your Space Shapes Your Financial Flow
Nov 27, 2025Have you ever noticed that when your home feels cluttered or chaotic, your mind and money seem to follow suit? This week on the Money with Alpha podcast, I had a powerful conversation with Feng Shui expert Suzanne Butler, who believes that the state of your home directly reflects the state of your finances.
Suzanne’s journey is as fascinating as it is inspiring. From serving in the Australian Defence Force to running multiple businesses — and ultimately discovering Feng Shui through a Facebook post — she has lived through the full spectrum of burnout, chaos, and rebirth. What started as curiosity soon became a calling when she saw immediate, tangible results after implementing Feng Shui principles in her home.
When Energy Blocks Money
Suzanne describes how energy blockages in our environment can mirror internal beliefs about worthiness and abundance. She discovered this firsthand while navigating toxic relationships and constant financial stress.
Despite working hard and earning income, money would “come in one side and flow out the other.” The turning point came when her mentor pointed out that her office — stacked neatly but overflowing with unnecessary items — was “energetically full.” Even her desk position symbolized resistance: wedged in a corner, back to the door, unable to “see what’s coming.”
When she turned her desk around and cleared her space, everything shifted. Her tax return, which she had avoided for fear of owing money, resulted in an unexpected $8,000 refund — and with it came new opportunities, improved cash flow, and a sense of energetic freedom.
Decluttering as an Act of Self-Value
Feng Shui isn’t just about where to place your furniture or what color to paint your walls. It’s a deeper reflection of how you value yourself. “Money blocks are rarely about money,” Suzanne explains. “They’re about worthiness.”
We hold onto things — old photos, books, clothes, or mementos — because they represent the past. But when we cling to the old, we crowd out the new. Decluttering becomes an act of self-trust: a way of telling the universe, “I’m ready for what’s next.”
Suzanne even encourages “Swedish death cleaning,” where you consciously release possessions long before you pass, gifting them to others so they can be appreciated now, not stored for later.
Creating Flow in Your Home (and Your Finances)
Here are a few simple, actionable takeaways from our conversation:
-
Face the Door: Never work with your back to the door — it blocks flow and awareness. If that’s not possible, place a solid screen or wall behind you for support.
-
Clear the Clutter: Especially around your office, kitchen, and entryway. Energy — like money — needs space to move.
-
Fix What’s Broken: A broken stove, blocked sink, or jammed drawer can all symbolize financial stagnation.
-
Ask and Act: The universe responds when you ask clearly — but you must also act. Feng Shui works best when combined with intention and action.
Ultimately, both money and energy are forms of flow. When your environment supports you, opportunities and abundance begin to align naturally.
As Suzanne says, “You don’t need to understand the how or the why — just start. Your home will begin to work for you, not against you.”
