Human Design and the Art of Self-Acceptance: How Understanding Your Energy Type Transforms Life and Money
Dec 18, 2025For most of us, life is a journey of self-discovery—one where we try to make sense of why we think, feel, and act the way we do. Yet many women still judge themselves harshly for not fitting into society’s mould of success. In a recent Money with Alpha podcast, I spoke with Selena Hillier, a Human Design practitioner and life coach, about how this powerful system can bring deep self-awareness and freedom from that judgment.
Selena’s path wasn’t linear. After two decades in the corporate world, she began exploring Human Design—a framework that combines astrology, quantum physics, genetics, and ancient wisdom. When she discovered her own type as a Manifesting Generator, everything clicked: her multi-passionate nature, her tendency to start several projects at once, even the guilt she’d carried for not finishing everything.
“I realised I wasn’t flaky or inconsistent,” Selena shared. “I was just wired differently—and that was okay.”
Human Design is created from your date, time, and place of birth. It reveals your energy type—how you’re designed to make decisions, respond to life, and use your energy. For some, that means initiating and leading (Manifestors); for others, guiding (Projectors) or responding to opportunities (Generators). There’s no one “right” way to live or work—only the way that’s right for you.
As we discussed, the real power of Human Design lies in self-acceptance. It gives you permission to stop trying to be like everyone else. For example, understanding that a Projector child needs rest or that a Manifesting Generator thrives on variety can transform family dynamics and eliminate unnecessary conflict.
This self-understanding also extends to money. Many of our financial habits stem from conditioning—beliefs inherited from our parents, peers, or early experiences. Selena described how recognising her own energetic patterns revealed where she was blocking abundance by overthinking and over-controlling outcomes.
Human Design reminds us that money, like energy, flows best when we do. When we act from alignment rather than fear or comparison, we create space for opportunities and income to appear more naturally.
Another profound takeaway from our conversation was the idea that goals aren’t for everyone. Some people thrive on structure; others, like Selena, feel constrained by rigid long-term plans. “My path isn’t linear,” she said. “So why would I try to make it linear?” For her, following what lights her up in the moment is far more powerful than forcing herself into arbitrary timelines.
Human Design is ultimately about remembering who you truly are beneath all the conditioning. It helps you recognise that your quirks aren’t flaws—they’re features. Whether you’re seeking to improve relationships, navigate career changes, or create financial flow, this modality offers a roadmap back to yourself.
As Selena beautifully summed up:
“It’s a remembering and an acceptance. Once you start honouring your design, everything begins to flow.”
If you’ve ever felt “too much,” “not enough,” or “out of sync,” Human Design might just be the permission slip you need—to stop striving and start thriving, on your terms.
